The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2-Day Tour begins at 7:30 AM with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We will then travel to the upper region of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you'll have the chance to explore and immerse yourself in charming villages known for their craftsmanship, pottery, and agriculture. You'll experience community-based tourism with the locals in the village of Chinchero, where we will visit the traditional market, colonial temple, and archaeological site.
Our journey continues with visits to Moray, a renowned agricultural experimentation center, and the Salineras de Maras, salt mines still actively exploited by local residents. After these fascinating explorations, we’ll head to the town of Urubamba for lunch (optional, $20 USD per person).
Following lunch, we’ll tour the impressive Ollantaytambo fortress, where descendants of the Incas still reside in traditional Inca homes. Our final destination for the day is the Ollantaytambo train station, where we’ll board the train at 3:37 PM for a scenic journey of approximately 2 hours to Aguas Calientes. We are expected to arrive around 5:00 PM, where we will spend the night in a selected hotel in the town of Machu Picchu.
On this day, our Machu Picchu tour begins early in the morning. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we will head to the station to catch the bus for a 30-minute drive to the Machu Picchu Citadel. Once there, we'll embark on a comprehensive 3-hour guided tour, exploring the most significant areas of Machu Picchu, including its temples and palaces. After the guided portion of the tour, you'll have some free time to explore the site on your own.
For those interested, you can optionally hike to either Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, which incurs an additional fee of $65 USD per person.
At the designated time, we'll descend from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes, where we will board our train back to Cusco. The estimated arrival time in Cusco is around 6:30 PM. This will conclude our 2-day, 1-night Machu Picchu excursion.
The tour includes transportation from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, guided tours of Machu Picchu, entrance fees to the site, train tickets to and from Aguas Calientes, and accommodation for one night in Aguas Calientes. Meals are typically not included unless specified.
The train journey from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes approximately 2 hours. The scenic ride offers stunning views of the Sacred Valley and the Urubamba River.
It’s recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, a rain jacket, and a refillable water bottle. Don’t forget your camera and any personal medications.
Yes, you can opt to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Both hikes offer breathtaking views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding areas. Note that there is an additional fee of $65 USD per person for these hikes, and they require advance booking.
