Itinerary

The Cusco Experiential Tour begins at 7:30 a.m. with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We'll then embark on a journey to the upper region of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop is the traditional Chinchero market and its historic colonial temple. Following this, we'll explore the fascinating salt mines of Maras and the ancient agricultural terraces of Moray, known for their unique agricultural experimentation. Next, we'll head to the welcoming Misminay community, where the locals will greet us with vibrant music and dance, setting the stage for a delightful traditional lunch prepared with local ingredients. After lunch, we’ll take a stroll through the village to learn more about their customs and daily life. A short hike will then lead us to a scenic viewpoint, offering breathtaking vistas of the entire Sacred Valley and the circular terraces of Moray below. As night falls, we’ll enjoy a warm family dinner around a cozy bonfire, where we'll share traditional stories and legends. You'll also have the opportunity to dress in local attire and fully immerse yourself in the customs of the area. We'll end the day with an overnight stay in a local family home, offering a truly authentic cultural experience.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast made with fresh, local ingredients, you'll have the chance to immerse yourself in the daily life of the community. You'll participate in traditional activities such as plowing fields, harvesting crops, and planting, all essential aspects of local agriculture. You'll also engage in rituals like paying tribute to Pachamama (Mother Earth). Additionally, you will learn about the traditional process of spinning, weaving, and dyeing textiles using natural dyes, guided by the skilled women of the community who practice techniques passed down through generations. Later, you'll take part in preparing a delicious traditional dish known as Pachamanca. This unique cooking method involves heating stones to cook a variety of ingredients, including beef, pork, chicken, and guinea pig, seasoned with chincho, huacatay, chili, and other local spices. Alongside these meats, you'll enjoy traditional Andean staples such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, fava beans, and occasionally cassava. This will be the highlight of our lunch. In the afternoon, around 3:00 p.m., we'll bid farewell to the community of Misminay and travel by private transport to Ollantaytambo. Here, you'll embark on a guided tour of the archaeological site for approximately 1.5 hours. After the tour, you'll have free time to explore the town at your own pace. You'll notice that many of the buildings are constructed on Incan walls, with streets, aqueducts, and structures still well-preserved. This town is often referred to as the "Living Inca City" of Ollantaytambo. Finally, we'll head to the Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. The scenic train ride lasts about 1.5 hours, offering stunning views of the Urubamba River canyon. Upon arrival, hotel staff will greet us and transfer us to our accommodation in Machu Picchu for the night. Overnight stay at a hotel in Aguas Calientes.

On this day, our adventure to Machu Picchu begins early. After a hearty breakfast, we will head to the station to catch the bus. The bus ride takes approximately 30 minutes and will bring us to the majestic Machu Picchu Citadel. Once there, you'll embark on a comprehensive 3-4 hours guided tour where you'll explore the most significant sites of Machu Picchu, including its Incan temples and palaces. Following the tour, you will have free time to explore the citadel on your own. You may choose to take an optional hike up either the Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu, with an additional cost of $65 USD per person. At a designated time, we will return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch at one of the recommended local restaurants. In the afternoon, you also have the option to visit the thermo-medicinal baths. Entrance to the hot springs is 10 soles, and this visit is optional. At 2:55 PM, we will board the train from Aguas Calientes back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, a private vehicle will transfer us to our hotel in Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of 6:30 PM. This concludes our immersive tour of the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
