Palcoyo Mountain, formerly known as the less popular Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca, has garnered considerable attention from visitors to the city of Cusco. It has become the second most visited attraction, second only to Machu Picchu. But what if you could experience not just one colorful mountain, but a whole group of them set amidst a spectacular high Andean landscape, adorned with herds of llamas and alpacas? If you’re interested in learning more about the Palcoyo Mountain range of colors, you’ve come to the right place.
Amazing view of Palcoyo Mountain in the Andes mountain range, where this stunning natural formation stands at approximately 4900 meters above sea level. We embark on this adventure from the city of Cusco at 4 in the morning. The morning journey by bus, lasting approximately 3 hours, takes us to the town of Palccoyo, where we enjoy breakfast before continuing for another hour to reach the starting point of the hike at around 4800 meters above sea level. Here, we begin our ascent, taking about 1 hour to reach the viewpoint at around 4900 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, you can admire the breathtaking views of Palcoyo Mountain and the surrounding landscape, characterized by its vibrant colors resulting from mineral deposits. After taking in the awe-inspiring scenery, including the snow-capped peaks and the colorful Palcoyo Mountain, we descend for approximately 1 hour to return to the starting point of the hike. Then, we board the bus and head to a local restaurant for lunch before making our way back to the city of Cusco, arriving around 4 pm. Other highlights include the opportunity to hike between 4800 meters above sea level and 4900 meters, with the possibility of experiencing altitude sickness such as soroche or headaches, for which we provide oxygen for your comfort and safety.
