Itinerary

Get ready for an exciting day of hiking in the Andean highlands. We'll start with a private ride to Tambomachay (3,600 m / 11,811 ft). We begin our climb toward Sicllaccasa Pass (4,020 m / 13,186 ft) from here. Along the way, we will walk on old Inca paths and through the Ccauca Gorge, where we will see lush crops like tarwi and tall cacti. As we get closer to Queullococha Pass (4,185 m / 13,727 ft), we'll be surrounded by stunning views of the snow-covered peaks of Veronica, Pitusiray, and Chicon. The trek goes on with a climb to the Challu Challu Pass (4,220 m / 13,842 ft), where you can see the Chinchero Plains and the Piuray and Qoricocha Lagoons from all sides. Next, we go to the Rumicruz Pass (4,230 m / 13,874 ft) and then down to Pucamarca (4,010 m / 13,153 ft). We'll get there in the afternoon, set up camp for the night, and have a well-deserved dinner.

Get ready for a fun day! We'll start at 7:00 a.m. with a hotel pickup and a scenic ride to the Ollantaytambo train station, which will take about an hour. As we drive, take in the sights of the Sacred Valley, with its farming fields and tall, snow-capped peaks. We get on the train and go to Km 104 (2,200 m / 7,217 ft), where our Inca Trail Short Trek begins. Cross the Willkamayuc (Sacred River) and show your papers at the checkpoint. A 15-minute walk from here takes us to the archaeological sites of Chachabamba and Choquesuysuy, which are hidden in the semi-tropical forest. After exploring, we'll keep going up stone stairs that give us amazing views of the valley, waterfalls, and orchids. We get to Wiñaywayna (2,650 m / 8,694 ft) after about three hours. It's an incredible place with Inca terraces and the Rainbow Temple. We'll take a one-hour tour here and then enjoy a box lunch. After lunch, we head to the Wiñaywayna checkpoint and hike for about two more hours until we reach Inti Punku (Sun Gate) (2,720 m / 8,923 ft). This is where you'll get your first full view of Machu Picchu. We reach Machu Picchu (2,490 m / 8,169 ft) after a 30-minute descent. You'll have time to explore the ancient ruins before taking a 25-minute bus ride to Aguas Calientes (2,160 m / 7,086 ft), where we spend the night in comfort. You can visit the thermal baths or enjoy the town’s nightlife if you're not too tired. A delicious dinner awaits at a cozy restaurant before you retire for the night in a comfortable hotel.

We'll start the day early with a big breakfast before taking a 30-minute bus ride to the Machu Picchu Citadel from the station. When you get there, you'll take a 2-hour guided tour of the most important sites of this ancient wonder and learn about its interesting history. You will have some free time to explore on your own after the tour. You can hike to the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. If you're feeling brave, you can also climb Huayna Picchu Mountain for an extra $70 USD. At the right time, we'll go back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch at one of the town's many restaurants. Please be at the station 30 minutes before the train leaves in the afternoon. When we get to the Ollantaytambo train station, a representative will be there to take you back to your hotel in Cusco, which is a 1.5-hour drive away.
