Itinerary

Early in the morning, we set off from Cusco to the village of Mollepata around 9 AM, where we’ll have breakfast. The village offers various shops and restroom facilities. We then board our vehicle for a 30-minute ride to Challacancha, where we’ll get our gear ready for the trek. After loading our equipment onto the horses, we’ll start the hike to Soraypampa, situated at an elevation of 12,631 feet (3,850 meters). Once we reach Soraypampa, we'll enjoy lunch and set up our camp. This is a great time to capture some stunning photos of the expansive canyon views. In the afternoon, following lunch, those who wish can take a short 1.20-hour hike to the beautiful Humantay Lake, located at 4,200 meters. This spot provides a fantastic opportunity to admire the area’s beauty and take some remarkable photos. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Soraypampa. After breakfast, we'll tackle the most challenging part of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, starting with a hike through an area known as Pampa Salkantay. We’ll then veer to the left side of the Humantay Glacier, which is adjacent to the Salkantay Glacier. By midday, we’ll reach the highest point of our trek, the Salkantay Humantay Pass at 14,763 feet (4,600 meters). We’ll take some time to explore the Salkantay glaciers, and after a one-hour break, we’ll have lunch at the site known as Huayracmachay. Following lunch, we’ll continue our hike for approximately 4 hours through the Selva Alta (also known as the Cloud Forest) until we arrive at the village of Chaullay at around 4 PM, situated at 9,514 feet (2,900 meters). At this point, you can choose to continue walking or take a vehicle to our new Majestic Ecolodge located in the Loreta La Plata region, where we’ll arrive by approximately 5 PM. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and we’ll spend the night in a luxurious geodesic dome. After breakfast, those interested can explore the area, descend to the Salkantay River, and visit a nearby coffee plantation close to our Majestic Ecolodge. Here, you’ll learn about coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing, ending with a coffee tasting experience. We’ll pass through various plantations growing crops such as coca, coffee, tea, banana, passion fruit, avocado, and papaya. After the visit, we’ll return to the Majestic Ecolodge around 11 AM for some relaxation. Lunch will be served in the lodge's dining area. In the afternoon, we’ll depart by vehicle to the Hydroelectric Station (1,900 m), arriving about 90 minutes later. From there, we’ll start a walk along the train tracks and the Urubamba River. Along the way, we’ll explore the Intihuatana archaeological site, which features an ancient Inca sundial. We’ll enjoy views of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, passing through the Cloud Forest known for its diverse plants and orchids. After a 3-hour hike, we’ll reach Aguas Calientes, where we’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel. Dinner will be at a local restaurant. In the morning, we’ll embark on a 2-hour guided tour of the Inca city of Machu Picchu. We’ll visit key sites including the Main Plaza, the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Rooms, the Temple of the Three Windows, and several burial sites. After the tour, you'll have time to explore the ruins on your own or visit Huayna Picchu if you’ve pre-booked this option. Additionally, you can hike to the Sun Gate for free, which is a relatively easy trek taking about an hour and a half round trip. Alternatively, you may visit the Inca Bridge for free; this trail is easier and takes approximately one hour. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. In the afternoon or evening, we’ll return to Ollantaytambo by train. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer you by bus to the main square in Cusco.
